Some interesting jewellery shopping in India

Shopping for jewellery, am sure all women love it... Its such a huge market out there, sometimes its really surprising... The variety, the designs, the beautiful and unique pieces you see out there are just so tempting!! The different variety of jewellery available in India is out of this world! As and when I see new stuff, would like to write about it.

Hyderabad is famous for some of its 'Nizam-isque' jewellery. And those designs are really royal. If you are the adventurous sorts, try shopping at the Charminar market. Its busy, crowded and full of stuff too!!! Check out the 'chand-bali' there, they are sooo light and delicate and colourful and beautiful. And so reasonably priced, the imitation ones come for something like Rs. 100. Also try the jhumars there, they are beautiful, though limited in their usage. Another beautiful piece is the the galabandh, beautifully encrusted stones and pearls in a heavy necklace, which is worn very close to the neck. Am sure you would just like to buy them if you see them.

Another place to do jewellery shopping is Jaipur. Known for its stones and diamonds, another famous Jaipur jewellery are the kundan works. After Jodha Akbar, these jewellery designs have become popular, but nothing prepares you for the actual pieces. If you get a chance to go to Jaipur, and try them, you will fall in love with them, even if you are not a gold jewellery lover.

There are two types of kundan, with and without polki. Both are uncut diamonds, but the polki designs have red and green colouring at the back, which gives a tinger to the uncut diamonds and a different look to the the entire piece. The designs are heavy and many are over the top, but when you wear them, you do look and feel like a princess! The cost of course is high too, but if you can afford it, go for it!!
