Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

Well, here it was... The last and final episode of the Harry Potter Series. The End. And it had to be seen. And it was.. But did it satisfy the Harry Potter fan? I would say no, it did not.. The movie traces the end of the series, with Harry finding and finishing off all the final Horcruxes and finally facing Voldemort and finishing him too. Most of the loose ends of the ealier movies are tied in this last part of the series. But something was definitely missing. The movie is definitely for the book lovers; without reading the book you cannot even comprehend completely what the movie was all about. It's only if you know the world of Harry Potter would you be able to fill in all the missing pieces of the puzzle which the movie fails to even mention. But even then, the last episode of the series failed to capture what it all meant. The end of a saga, the fulfilling of seven years of search and mystery. All parts of the puzzle coming together to give a full meaning to Harry P...

Movie Review : Aarakshan

Aarakshan follows the story of Prabhakar Anand, the principal of STM college. He is a man of principles who believes in true education of all. He runs free classes for the weak at his house and is revered by all around him. He however rubs the politicians the wrong way and then they wreak havoc on his life, causing him to lose his job, his house and his reputation. He however fights back on the strength of his abilities, and his belief in real education. During this period, the issue of caste based reservation comes up but then gets lost in the host of other things shown during the movie. Aarakshan is a movie with a confused message. It starts out with trying to deal with the issues of casteism and reservation, as reflected in the title of the movie. But at some point it becomes all about the issues of education and corruption in our country, and leaves the audience confused about what the movie is trying to say (By any chance, did I see the censored version of the movie with all th...

Right and Wrong

What is right and what is wrong? And what comes in the grey? Doesn't too much come in the grey region?? These questions confuse the mind time and again.. while reading a book or seeing a television serial or a movie or any other such portrayal of life: where life's events and decisions are shown.. There are so many situations in these portrayals, when you wonder what you would do in the same place and you do not get a clear answer.. And makes you fear that if you can't decide even when not faced with the situation, what would you do when faced with it in real life? These questions came up again while watching the grand epics of epics, Mahabharat. What a story it is, with layers after layers of characterisations.. a multitude of characters all interlinked together in a complex maze.. decisions taken by people leading to unexpected consequences generations later.. Such an interesting study on karma and characters it is. What would you say about Bheeshma, a pe...

Another Emergency-like situation?

Ramdev's protest broken up by Delhi Police and the protestors beaten up..        Anna Hazare not allowed to hold a fast at Jantar Mantar.. but at JP Park..              .. and that too, for not more than 3 days and with not more than 5,000 people... What is India coming to? The largest democracy in the world but protests being stifled?? And the PM shirks any responsibility,  saying he cannot be involved.. (and turning a blind eye to things happening in his administration yet again!). Can the head of the government say that this does not fall within his purview? Can the government get away with not allowing a peaceful protest just because the protest is against the government? Such headlines coming in the papers regularly do not paint a positive picture of what des is coming to.. and worries a bit.. Lets see what it leads to?

Movie Review: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi na milegi dobara, as would be expected with such a star cast, had managed to raise expectations a lot..! And it did match those, but failed to surpass them.. The first half of the movie is awesome fun! Three friends on an adventure trip across the towns of Spain, three men who try to be boys and have some old-styled fun! The dialogues are witty, the jokes outright funny, poking fun at each others shortcomings: its all just like the old school and college days:). The jokes in this half of the movie are the type that you would laugh out loud at while rocking your seat. Totally enjoyed it! Farhan Akhtar was a revelation, he totally rocked as the funny guy of the group. His expressions when trying to crack a joke or stifle a laugh were just so real! Hritik was a caricature of the materialist banker, though of course his actual profession could not be ascertained with certainty:))! Was he a trader or an investment banker or a broker! But thats not important I guess. Abhay acted...

Movie Review: Delhi Belly

Wah wah wah! Am so impressed.. Seeing a new Hindi movie after so long, and I wasn't disappointed at all! Aamir Khan has managed to consistently deliver something new and good everytime, and he has done it again..! And I think its a good idea for Imran Khan also to stick to doing projects with his mamu . Was a welcome change from Luck and Kidnap (neither of which I had the courage to watch actually!). Anyways to the movie.. Delhi Belly is in a league of its own, so very different from the English artsy kind of movies we are so used to seeing.. So cool and chic and youthful without being pretentious and artificial.. It just felt so natural, to the point of surprising me! The story is nothing new I guess, its been done to death in many movies especially Guy Ritchie's ones.  Delhi Belly is similar, tracing a couple of days in the life of three friends staying in a run-down house in Delhi. One is a journalist, one a photographer and one a cartoonist: each character has his ow...

Sallu is back!!

Salman Khan seems to have created a niche kind of roles for himself in the last few years, and what a niche it is!! Wanted, Dabangg and now ready? Loud, brash, over-the-top, unbelievable but a lovable character.. He has started being himself in all his movies now, with the swagger of a star, and limited acting or even dancing abilities! It looks like he has no more concerns for any conventional sensibilities! The new song from 'Ready', Character Dheela, is the perfect example of it. You see the song, and you know its made for Salman!! Fun, total masti and no logic.. ahaa..! What a pleasure to see someone has the guts to just be himself, whatever he is.. and enjoy it totally!! Nice rocking song, totally fun! Go see it!!
