Did You Know : Wikiracing

I would like to equate Wikipedia to Google, as innovative and able to change the face of how we search for information on the internet. Today, search for most of us on any topic, is typing " wiki xyz" into Google. Wiki has completely changed the way we search for information on the net. Of course the scale of Google is on a different level altogether, but still, their similar quest for creativity leads them both higher and higher. Here is a new concept developed by Wiki, 'wikiracing'. Read about it here.. Isn't it interesting? Let's see if it catches up or not..

Traffic policeman in Mumbai

People who drive in Mumbai have certain reactions when they see a traffic policeman stopping them, a feeling of fear or wonder whether they would be fined today or not or an instinct to just reach for the purse:). The usual tips given by everyone on how to handle the traffic cops when you are stopped go like this: offer money asap (after negotiating on it a bit) and you will be able to get away very cheap that way. And to never argue with them irrespective of whether you committed any offense or not, as he can always book you under some vague rule if you anger him and that will prove costlier than just slipping some notes to him. When anyone sees a traffic policeman on the road, he wonders, is the cop going to pick on me to stop now (irrespective of whether I am breaking a traffic rule or not!) and how cheap will I get away with... Its a bit sad.. This isn't what thoughts a traffic policeman should stir up in anyone, right? It should just make you more aware about how y...

Ridiculous : Multiple Chief Ministers

Another low in India politics.. "The Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance coalition government now has four “chief ministers”, with senior legislator and state party chief Friday Lyngdoh’s elevation to the status and rank of chief minister. Soon after the formation of the coalition last May under chief minister D.D. Lapang, J.D. Rymbai and Donkupar Roy were accorded the status and rank ." The last low in this category had been the six-monthly Chief Ministers that UP once had, when BJP and BSP had been unable to come up with a consensus CM. That marriage had not lasted more than six months, but now we have another low in this category: Four 'Chief Ministers' at the same time!! How this will go we can guess anyways, four CMs go to five CMs and then six CMs and then so on...! And to top it all, the terms of the appointment are such, that only one of the Chief Ministers will have admistrative powers and duties, the rest would just enjoy th...

Movie Review : Ishqiya

Ishqiya is a masterpiece, or at least an 'almost'.... The movie is very involving, keeping you hooked to your seats at all times, except the end though which just let's you out of the theatre confused! (Someone please clarify the end to me??!!!) Ishqiya is different and a welcome change. After a long time was seeing a movie based in rural India. It's not a candyfloss movie but a strong in-your-face kind of movie, and maybe thats what makes it stand out. It has its moments, and moments which will shake you... Deceit, passion, 'ishq', the naxal movement.. its all there!! The characterisations are good and uncovered layer by layer.. All the characters in the movie fit well and are well developed.. The story and screenplay is good, and the way it unfolds keeps you wondering how it will all piece together in the end.. Acting is natural too as well as the rural setting.. very realistically handled (except Vidya Balan, its sooo tough to imagine her as a villager from ...

Movie Review : New York I Love You

Why did I go for this movie??!! Thanks to a certain famous Pastrami it is... :) Anyways a lot of my friends were eager to watch this movie 'cos they all love New York. I guess as a tribute to them, I went to see what all this city is about. And to tell you frankly, I am highly disappointed with the movie at least!! There are some ten-eleven "love" stories making up this movie, each written and directed by a different writer and director. The stories in themselves are sometimes nice and sometimes crazy. They are interwoven together sometimes, and sometimes not. Some of the stories were nice, like the interaction while lighting a cigarette between a man standing on the street with another woman, and of a bored wife with his husband, as if he was a stranger, and moments between an aged couple who fight like children after having given each other companionship for over fifty years. There are many other such nice instances, of a guy taking a physically handicapped girl to h...

Mumbai Marathon

The Mumbai Marathon is a running facebook:). Seriously:)))) I woke up early morning this Sunday, to cheer some of my friends who were running this year in the Marathon.. The friend for whom I woke up so early, was the only one I missed. Rest, I met people after 10-15 years, friends from childhood, school, college, work and even people I never again wanted to see in my life:).. As I said a running facebook:) At one point, saw the Kenyans running.. They just swooshed past, and that too at the 33km mark. All of them in a group, running together, preceded by the media bus. What a sight! They are soo fit, and run soooo fast! Simply amazing.. Its also very inspiring to see the very old people running such distances. Makes you want to give it a shot too! Anyways was good to see so many people out in the streets cheering the others. Go Mumbai go!!

Movie Review : Paranormal Acitivity

Am not sure too many people would have heard about this movie before. Its an amateur attempt, by non profession people to make a movie. The protagonist of the movie, Micah takes a camera, and makes a video at home, with amateur actors, as if he is filming a real event. He films events at his home, where a paranormal presence leads to suspicious and scary happenings at home. Its a nice watch, a good horror movie with its "moments". Am sure if you watch it alone at night, it would scare you for sometime at least. The filming is amateur, but thats what its supposed to be so thats ok. Its surely not real (thank god for that!), and the storyline as well as the acting is good and realistic. Would give it 3.5 stars.
