Movie Review: Rockstar
Frankly, I am confused about this movie... Is it good, fine, great or terrible? At different times, its one of these.. Anyways let me talk about it more..
The Good: Ranbir Kapoor: he is a superstar in the making. Does different types of movies, tries to play different characters, acts really well and has a filmi background. What more do you need? I was amazed at how he transformed the character from a young college-goer to a much older and crazier rockstar with such ease. His acting is definitely something to be enjoyed.
The music in the movie is different and enjoyable though I sometimes got bored because there are just too many songs (about 14 or so!!).
Also the theme of the movie is what I am starting to like. A crazy love story, between two people, different in their personalities and their lives. How it spans continents and disease and fame and tough times. Its just a crazy love story. The movie also shows something about the 'celebrity' mind: they have it all but sometimes don't want it. And they always have some dard behind it all...
The Bad: The script. The script. The script! The bane of the majority of Indian movies. Why don't the film makers focus on that, the details in the script, the flow, the editing. It all has to come together, and sadly for Rockstar, it doesn't. The movie just gets too painful and boring in the second half. Too many things happening without reason, with the story going all over the place. Nopes, it doesnt work.
Even Nargis (who can't act much) could have been forgotten if the story got its act together. But it didn't. And so you notice how the actress of the movie just can't act. She looks good though, a mix of Sonam Kapoor and Katrina but pains you a lot especially when the story gets too boring to watch.
As I think back on the movie, I find it better though. Maybe because you remember the general theme of the movie more than the details.. But Rockstar again goes to show that put together a good actor, a decent theme and good music: yet it all falls apart because of the lack of the flow in the movie. Would go with 2.5 stars for this one.
