Chabbis Gyarah, Na ho Dobara!

Wow, what a slogan!! Isn't it? Brilliant!! It was playing across tv channels all of yesterday..

Yesterday on the one-year anniversary of 26/11, we were in the Colaba area where the attacks had happened. The roads were all blocked due to huge traffic, of people going to Gateway and showing their support to all affected by the tragedy last year. We saw something like a rock concert happening at the Leopold Cafe, to show Mumbai's defiance to the brutal attack. A police rally at Nariman point. Students from many colleges collecting at the Gateway and shouting slogans, on how we will not take such attacks lying down and demanding our politicians to do something, anything.

Abhishek Bachchan on TV, in some telecom ads proclaiming that we will not forget. Another telecom company announcing that a percentage of the proceeds from all calls made on XYZ date, between ABC time will go to the families of policemen affected by 26/11. And of course, all newspapers and tv channels re-discovered the terror that we all felt in our hearts a year back, recounting the events that took place during those days.

Great, isnt it? One year hence, we still remember what happened a year back, and make it a point to make our voice heard.. and then we go off to our own worlds and will be back again, same place, same time, one year hence, and make our voices be heard, again!!

Is there something wrong in all this?

Why do we not remember the dates of the Bombay riots.. or the train bombings.. or the Mumbai bombings.. ? Are they not worth remembering every year?

Instead of coming out and shouting slogans, shouldn't we all have voted this year?

Isn't donating to the affected families or even a minute of silence more dignified than holding a rock concert at the place of the attacks?

Just some questions in my head.. Any answers?

One thing which I saw, which I did think was the right response to what happened a year back... At Girgaum Chowpatty, there were some candles lighted in front of the photographs of the policemen who lost their lives there last year. Am not sure how much it would help anyone, but at least, it had the dignity that such an event deserved, the sadness it deserved. But as expected, there was no one around there, just some policemen. The rest of us preferred to go and see the concert at Leopold, including all the tv crews!!

Isnt this another "Ridiculous"?!!
