Movie Review : Udaan

Udaan got tons of positive reviews from critics and multiple awards to boot. That was the reason I went to see the movie. I should have realized though, to expect just that, a movie which wins lots of awards for being a serious take on some aspect of life. But I should not really have expected any entertainment from it!

Anyways to be fair, its a well made movie for some with some seriously good acting. Its the journey of Rohan, from his hostel to his father's house, to a new life with his till now unknown (but sweet) step-brother Arjun, to a father who likes to live by strict if not draconian and many times unfair rules, to a career in engineering forced onto him, to making new friends as being the only outlet for his frustration.. And towards finally being able to gather the courage to rid himself of all this!

The pace of the movie is slow, building up on the events to show how the frustration in Rohan grows. Wasn't that to be expected of an artsy movie? Another thing you may notice about the movie is the fact that the father though shown as a not-so-good person, is still not a completely bad person either. He is shown to have a human side too, which is mostly buried. He just is an extreme kind of person, which do exist in the world. You do question sometimes, whether you should or should not hate him!

Anyways the biggest flaw I found in the movie was I did not understand what it was trying to say and how.. Would give it 3 stars out of 5, just because its well made. Nothing more though...
