Movie Review : Rajneeti

2010 has not been a great year for movies, there is just a dearth of good movies.. and all the big starrers have come out to be a disappointment. Kites before this and Rajneeti, not at all upto the mark given the huge star cast. The movie has everyone, Ranbir, Katrina, Nana, Bajpai, Ajay, Arjun Rampal, Naseer and so on. Of these, Ranbir is the central character with Nana, Arjun and Ajay also with major roles.

The storyline of the movie encompasses an election campaign, dotted with murders, blackmail, betrayals, underhanded dealings, caste politics and everything else we already associate with politics. Anything and everything is acceptable as long as it is done for power. Innocent people turn into scheming politicians if required. And I guess that's what this movie is all about.

Surprisingly, the characters have been given their due, each given a decently meaty role. Acting was mostly good. Nana is still on the top with his effortless acting and surprisingly, Arjun Rampal has really matured as an actor. He actually can act now:)!!! Katrina is terrible again though, it might just be wise for her to stick to looking-good kind of roles, she does more justice to those types of roles. Ajay Devgan has the same brooding expression throughout the movie, it never seems to change!! Ranbir is ok, nothing different or new about him here.

The story was a weak point in the movie, there was just too much happening all around. There are too many obvious shades of Godfather in the story, as well as from Mahabharat. The whole storyline of Ajay being the 'Karna' of Mahabharat was just not required. Everything and anything has been added for the sake of completion, in the end there being nothing powerful enough to make a point.

Was an average movie, nothing great to talk about. Would give it 2.5 or maybe 2 stars. Not decided yet.
