Mumbai Marathon

The Mumbai Marathon is a running facebook:). Seriously:)))) I woke up early morning this Sunday, to cheer some of my friends who were running this year in the Marathon.. The friend for whom I woke up so early, was the only one I missed. Rest, I met people after 10-15 years, friends from childhood, school, college, work and even people I never again wanted to see in my life:).. As I said a running facebook:) At one point, saw the Kenyans running.. They just swooshed past, and that too at the 33km mark. All of them in a group, running together, preceded by the media bus. What a sight! They are soo fit, and run soooo fast! Simply amazing.. Its also very inspiring to see the very old people running such distances. Makes you want to give it a shot too! Anyways was good to see so many people out in the streets cheering the others. Go Mumbai go!!

Movie Review : Paranormal Acitivity

Am not sure too many people would have heard about this movie before. Its an amateur attempt, by non profession people to make a movie. The protagonist of the movie, Micah takes a camera, and makes a video at home, with amateur actors, as if he is filming a real event. He films events at his home, where a paranormal presence leads to suspicious and scary happenings at home. Its a nice watch, a good horror movie with its "moments". Am sure if you watch it alone at night, it would scare you for sometime at least. The filming is amateur, but thats what its supposed to be so thats ok. Its surely not real (thank god for that!), and the storyline as well as the acting is good and realistic. Would give it 3.5 stars.

Movie Review : Sherlock Holmes

Brilliant Movie! Absolutely loved it:) Actually I think I liked the movie without even having seen it, since it was about Sherlock Holmes. Once the movie started though, this view was in the process of changing, but by the end, the movie has you in the grips again, completely! Its not a typical Sherlock Holmes you would expect: a story without a drop of blood, or use of firearms or martial arts. Thats what I went in looking for, but the movie turned out to be completely different. Sherlock is a bumbling detective, with his sparks of brilliance and of course the subtle British humour. He is human, a genius and mad also to some extent. Watson though seems to a bigger hero than Sherlock here, the mature foil to the immature detective! The buildup of the movie is good, the end pieces everything together very well. It's a new story, not based on the earlier novels and well put together. The visuals of the 1800s London are well done. And the fact, that it was NOT a supernatural movie w

Stop the India - Sri Lanka Cricket Madness

Read this article on cricinfo by Sidharth Monga , about the sudden rise in cricket matches between India and Sri Lanka to such an extreme level, that it has lost all interest it had for the cricket fans. Some gems from his article about how everyone is protesting against these frequent matches in their own creative way: "......until they get a written assurance that India and Sri Lanka won't play each other for the next five years. Not in Tests. Not in ODIs. Not in Twenty20. Not in women's cricket. Not in carrom. Not in women's carrom. " "I have no doubt that Vijay Bahadur Mishra and Daljit Singh grew sick of it all, and took the only route left for men of honour and dignity. They rolled out a monster of a pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla, making sure at least one of these matches was called off. " "The best rivals bring out the best in each other; India and Sri Lanka have for months been excavating the worst out of each other." "Tillakara

Movie Review : Avatar

This will be a short review, I think everyone will agree with whatever I will say:). This movie has created world wide records, again a Cameron movie and again something out of this world. The story isn't what has made it a blockbuster though. Its quite a run of the mill story, nothing new there. But its the special effects, the entire new world the movie conjures up that makes it a blockbuster: a world with its own rules and ways, and which seems so real and believable, its actually surprising!! And its beautiful to imagine this entire new parallel world that has been created upto the smallest detail. A treat to the eye and great to watch! The 3D is good, and its better to see in that format. Would give it a 4.5 star.

Dilli Main Paranthe Wali Gali

Had heard countless times and especially in Bollywood movies, about the paranthe-wali gali in Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, and always wondered what was so great about it! This time, I finally figured out why actually its so famous and talked about:). It was my first trip to the famed bazaar of old, and it was fun to walk through the myriad gallis of the market, window shopping all kinds of things possible and for extremely unbelievable rates. And in one of such small gallis, next to some saree shops are the two-three parantha shops which give the street its name. The rates are cheap and they give you a full thali, with some sabzis, chutneys and salads. And the paranthe come with various fillings (some very uncommon ones too)! And they taste yummm! You have to once go and eat these for yourself to understand what they are like.. The shops of course at first sight may not be inviting, but once you go past its look, the food tastes like heaven.. try it once for sure:)

Movie Review : 3 Idiots

Given the hi-profile launch of this movie, as well as the raving reviews it received, I went in with very high expectations of the movie. But the movie failed to deliver upto those built-up expectations (Am aware that many people do not agree with this at all, but unfortunately that's my view:) ) The acting is fine, the concept is fine, the story is fine. But it lacks something, which sets apart a great movie from a good movie. There were some parts in the movie which stretched just too much, there were flaws in the story flow and lot of things which were just so unrealistic. Not to forget the fact of course, that 40 year olds were playing 20 year olds! Thats just too hard to digest. Of course, some of the jokes were very funny, and the point about our flawed education system did come across, and in quite a light manner which is quite good. So full points for that! Would give the movie just 3 stars, which given the kind of reviews the movie has received elsewhere, dont match. As
